According to a report released by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) on Friday, September 21, the annual revenue generated by online slots (iSlots) in Pennsylvania exceeded the $1 billion mark for the first time. The data, based on the 2022/2023 fiscal year, shows a 26.5% increase from $847 million in the corresponding period to $1.07 billion.

Online table games also saw an increase in revenue, up 22.6% to $428 million for the year. In the 22/23 fiscal year, the total iGaming revenue generated in Pennsylvania was $1.65 billion, up 24% from the previous year.

Out of the 20 iGaming sites licensed by the PGCB, those affiliated with Hollywood Casino at Penn National Racecourse had the highest-grossing slots revenue of $440 million. The group includes renowned sites like DraftKings, BetMGM, PointsBet, and Barstool.

PlaySugarHouse, Borgata, and BetRivers, which are affiliated with Rivers Casino in Philadelphia, have generated the second-highest slots revenue of $285 million.

The third highest-grossing slots revenue comes from FanDuel and Stardust, both affiliated with Valley Forge Casino Resort in King of Prussia, generating $176 million.

The report also showed that Pennsylvania added a new retail casino, bringing the state’s total land-based casinos to 17. The collective revenue generated by Pennsylvania’s land-based casinos for the fiscal year also increased. Together, revenue from slots and table games reached a record amount of $3.4 billion, with slot machines generating over $2.4 billion. This is a 1.74% increase over the previous year.

Parx Casino is a gambling complex and thoroughbred horse racing venue in Bensalem, covering 150,000 square feet and offering more than 2,900 video slot terminals. Parx produced the highest slots revenue in the state, generating almost $390 million.

The second highest comes from the Wind Creek Bethlehem Casino in Eastern Pennsylvania. The 183,000-square-foot casino facility is home to over 2,500 slot machines and a retail sportsbook powered by Betfred. The slots revenue produced for the year came to almost $279 million.

Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh also exceeded $260 million in slots revenue, coming in a close third. Situated on the Ohio River in the heart of Pittsburgh, the casino occupies 120,000 square feet and features around 2,400 slot terminals.

Tax revenue generated by Pennsylvania’s gaming industry has arguably had a positive impact on the state. Retail casinos generated a little over $1.4 billion for the Commonwealth. With slot machines contributing $1.25 billion and table games $158 million, much of the funds will go towards financing various public services to better the community as a whole.

The Interactive gaming revenue has also benefited Pennsylvania’s economy, producing $652 million in tax revenue for the year. This marked a 24% increase over the previous year, with online slots contributing $365 million in tax earnings.
